Inspired by the magical natural beauty and rich cultural and historical heritage of our region, we want to provide our participants with a unique opportunity for an unforgettable experience. Our trail race aims to proudly present enchanting coastal landscapes overlooking the sea, historical sites filled with stories of times gone by, and magnificent olive trees. The trails lead through diverse terrain, offering participants a physical challenge, two refreshment breaks, but also the opportunity to connect with the rich history and culture of the island of Pag, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Starting along the coastal belt, from Drljanda Bay, the striking scent of indigenous plant species and medicinal herbs slowly fades around the locality of Zaglave, a part of the island known for its bare rock exposed to strong blows of the bora and salt spray. For the aforementioned reason, the plant cover in this area is almost non-existent, but it will show you why Pag bears the epithet of the moon island.
The most striking and biggest attraction of this trail is certainly the Svetojanj fortress, a prehistoric fortress from the 6th century, which during the time of Emperor Justinian served as an observation post and an important defensive element of the highly sophisticated system of protecting the maritime interests of Byzantium during the first period of its domination of the Adriatic. With a very demanding climb, from the viewpoint, you can see the Velebit Channel and the magnificent mountain peaks of Velebit, as if in the palm of your hand.
The enchanting small, natural, centuries-old pond Svetojašnica is one of the rare preserved ponds on the island. It is an oasis in the heart of Zaglava, which for years was the only source of water for Pag's sheep, and in the last 100 years, according to local tradition, it has dried up only once.
Next to the quarry is the Novalja field with its green oases, contrasting with the previously scarce terrain, which is abundant in drinking water, the source of life. The ancient Romans knew this too, who in the 1st century AD dug an underground water supply system 1,100 meters long in living stone, connecting the field with the settlement of Novalja. Popularly known as the Italian's Well or the Roman Water Supply System, it can be viewed in the City Museum and a small part of its interior can be walked through.
The church of St. Anthony is located in a fairy-tale location above a pond covered with tall reeds. On the edge of the pond, in the shade of tall treetops, you can seek refreshment in the source of drinking water, but it dries up in the summer months. The icing on the cake at the very end is the picturesque coastal village of Stara Novalja, where Mediterranean flora and rocky terrain intertwine through the untouched nature of picturesque views, as a true symbol of this enchanting island.
